Welcome!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greyhound Friends gets homeless dogs home <\/strong>– especially purpose-bred dogs like sighthounds who are overbred or discarded when no longer “useful.” We adopt dogs to responsible, loving homes in Massachusetts and throughout New England. We also work to educate the public about the need for adoption and humane treatment of all dogs everywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you want to adopt, please download and complete a Pre-adoption Application<\/a> and schedule a visit to meet our available dogs. Greyhounds, sighthounds, and mixed breed dogs are arriving to the shelter on a regular basis. The adoption fee is $1000 for all domestic and international dogs. These fees cover only a portion of the dogs’ transport and care costs: we rely on donations from generous friends to fund the rest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW: Kids & Family Day at the Shelter, Coming July 25 <\/strong> \"\ud83d\udc99\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Come meet the sighthounds at the Greyhound Friends shelter, learn about shelter work and volunteering, and receive an introduction to sighthound breeds as beloved family pets. The shelter’s Educational Outreach team regularly presents at K-12 schools and after-school programs during the academic year. This special offering brings an educational enrichment opportunity<\/strong> for kids during the summer break. The material is designed for children of all ages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event includes an informational talk, a shelter tour, Q&A and time with some of the kennel residents. Part of the program is held outdoors, weather permitting. Tickets are $5\/person; free for kids 5 and under (accompanied by an adult).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remembrance Ceremony Video<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the Spring Open House, Greyhound Friends held a Remembrance Ceremony to honor special friends we have recently lost. Justice of the Peace (and former board president) Stoddard Melhado led the beautiful ceremony. You can watch the video here<\/a>, on our Facebook page. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each Open House brings “alumni” reunions, old friends and ne. Greyhound Friends on Channel 25’s Furever Friday<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Look who made her big TV debut on Boston 25’s Furever Friday: Pepper! She’s a young saluki mix (including some GSD and Dalmatian!) rescued in Qatar. Pepper is looking for a calm home with people who can protect her from surprise encounters with other dogs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She was a bit nervous about the new place and new people at the TV studio, but we’re glad she could get some wider exposure so her forever person can find her. She’s a special girl, and her “special needs” aren’t too complicated, for an experienced owner willing to make some adjustments for her to be secure and safe. Volunteers Needed to Staff Info Tables, Help with Meet & Greet Coordination and Tech Tasks<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greyhound Friends has volunteer opportunities in 3 distinct areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udc99 Staffing information tables at area events and meet & greets – learn by shadowing experienced volunteers, then expand to new locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udc99 Aiding the social media effort and office staff with technical projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udc99 Coordinating volunteers for on-site and off-site events – a growing area of need as we expand our community presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
