Welcome!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greyhound Friends gets homeless dogs home <\/strong>– especially purpose-bred dogs like sighthounds who are overbred or discarded when no longer “useful.” We adopt dogs to responsible, loving homes in Massachusetts and throughout New England. We also work to educate the public about the need for adoption and humane treatment of all dogs everywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you want to adopt, please download and complete a Pre-adoption Application<\/a> and schedule a visit to meet our available dogs. Greyhounds, sighthounds, and mixed breed dogs are arriving to the shelter on a regular basis. The adoption fee is $1000 for all domestic and international dogs. These fees cover only a portion of the dogs’ transport and care costs: we rely on donations from generous friends to fund the rest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fall Open House is Saturday, September 19! <\/strong>\u00a0\"\ud83d\udc99\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Come mdopters, supporters, neighbors and friends are all invited to attend our Fall Open House & Reunion! The day will include visits with adoptable dogs, fun runs & contests for dogs including a **dog costume contest**<\/strong> plus vendors, refreshments, a silent auction & raffle, a Remembrance Ceremony, and information on ongoing work to help homeless dogs go home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vendors include: Happy Hounds Soap<\/strong> <\/a>& plant based skin care, Classy Couch Potatoes<\/strong><\/a> handmade collars & coats, handmade treats from Creative Employment Opportunities<\/strong><\/a> for people with disabilities, Mingo Bling Jewelry<\/strong>, Dogtopia Franklin<\/a><\/strong> day care & boarding, and VEG Veterinary Emergency Group<\/a><\/strong> – Shrewsbury. Come meet them all and get some treats!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event is free, open to the general public, and held outdoors. Kids are welcome, with adult supervision. ALL DOGS are welcome, on leash (not retractable please) and in owner’s full control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remembrance Ceremony <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of each Open House, Greyhound Friends holds a Remembrance Ceremony <\/strong>in our Memorial Garden to acknowledge special lives lost since we were last togethert. If you\u2019ve lost a special dog friend recentlyand you would like their name included in the ceremony, please email smelhado@comcast.net <\/em><\/strong>to add them to the list. Please feel free to include a sentence or two about what made them extra special to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greyhound Friends on Channel 25’s Furever Friday<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Look who made her big TV debut on Boston 25’s Furever Friday: Pepper! She’s a young saluki mix (including some GSD and Dalmatian!) rescued in Qatar. Pepper is looking for a calm home with people who can protect her from surprise encounters with other dogs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She was a bit nervous about the new place and new people at the TV studio, but we’re glad she could get some wider exposure so her forever person can find her. She’s a special girl, and her “special needs” aren’t too complicated, for an experienced owner willing to make some adjustments for her to be secure and safe. Volunteers Needed to Staff Info Tables, Help with Meet & Greet Coordination and Tech Tasks<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greyhound Friends has volunteer opportunities in 3 distinct areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udc99 Staffing information tables at area events and meet & greets – learn by shadowing experienced volunteers, then expand to new locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udc99 Aiding the social media effort and office staff with technical projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udc99 Coordinating volunteers for on-site and off-site events – a growing area of need as we expand our community presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
