Thank you to all of the people who came to the Waltham District Court on December 27th in support of Sari and Talca. Our next opportunity to ensure justice for these two sweet greyhounds will be on February 6, 2008 at 9 AM. Please join us at the courthouse again. Watch here for updates. We are particularly grateful to Detective Joe Kelly of the Watertown Police for his on-going investigation of the cruel treatment of Talca and Sari. ************************* It’s that cold time of year when going outside for a walk, letting your dogs out into the fenced yard, running out to get the mail, or even opening the door for a visitor is done as quickly as possible. Plus, with all the snow we’ve received, issues with gates (being stuck, being left open, etc.) and the height of fences (reduced due to the pile up of snow) are common. To keep your greyhound safe, please remember the following safety tips: - Make sure your dog is wearing a collar and identification at all times.
- Keep your dog back from the door when you go to open it – preferably in another room.
- Always double check that gates, doors, and other openings are shut tight before you let your dog out.
- Ensure that with the snow in your dog yard, the height of your fence is still sufficient to keep your dog in. If it’s not, you may need to remove snow along the fence line.
- If you have a spook, please consider using a harness for walks, in addition to a collar. A great spook harness is available through www.majesticcollars.com.
- While walking your greyhound, be sure to hang on tightly to the leash – slip the handle around your wrist and then wrap the leash around your wrist a few times.
- Remember to put a coat on your greyhound when walking in cold weather – they have little body fat to keep them warm.
- If you walk on roads that have been sanded and salted, please wipe their feet when you bring them back into your house. Sand and salt can be painful to your greyhound.
